Quick answer

Mission 6 is "Attack on the Drinwich Airfield" (Operation Redouble), set in the Rigley Mountains.[1][2][3] It has no mission medal.[1]

Your job is to escort two teams of four Chinook helicopters, Spread 1 and Spread 2, to an enemy airfield, then hold off the waves that follow until a scripted explosion ends the mission.[4]

The hidden enemy ace is Flamma in a MiG-31B Foxhound. On Veteran or higher, destroy 5 or more mission targets (TGTs) in the first 3 minutes to make Flamma appear.[5]

Walkthrough: the objectives in order

This order follows PowerPyx's Ace-difficulty walkthrough, written in our own words.[4]

  1. Check the map before you fly in. Zoom out on the minimap and note where the nearest TGTs are. You need them for the ace trigger (next section).
  2. Cover both helicopter teams. Listen to the radio chatter and to Dealer's orders to know where you need to be. Shoot down aircraft going after either team, and clear dangerous ground targets in front of them. Keep switching between the two groups as they close in on the airfield.
  3. When the Chinooks land, kill the transport first. A wave of bombers comes from the south. At the same time, a transport tries to escape from the base. Shoot down the transport, then head south for the bombers.
  4. Return to the airfield for the ground troops. Spread 1 and 2 report resistance from enemy troops on the ground. Use missiles on them carefully. PowerPyx says to fire only when it "wouldn’t endanger the other targets in the area". It does not say which other targets it means, or what happens if you hit them.
  5. Hold out until the end. Waves of bombers and ground targets take turns. The mission ends with a scripted explosion.

How to get Flamma: the steps in order

  1. Play on Veteran or higher. The 31 named aces only appear on those difficulties.[5][1]
  2. Destroy 5 or more TGTs in the first 3 minutes. Use the targets you spotted on the minimap at the start.[5][4]
  3. Shoot down Flamma (MiG-31B Foxhound).[5]
  4. Finish the mission. The kill only counts toward your Assault Records once you complete the mission.[1]

Shooting down a named ace unlocks a paint scheme for the plane that ace flies.[5] For Flamma, that is the MiG-31B. All 31 aces: named aces and skins.

Our calculation: 5 targets in 3 minutes (180 seconds) means one TGT every 36 seconds on average. That pace includes flying between targets, which is why PowerPyx says to note the closest TGTs on the minimap at the start.[4]

Missed Flamma? Nothing is missable. You can replay Mission 6 in Free Mission after your first campaign clear.[1]

Mission 6 and S rank

  • PowerPyx says a confirmed ace kill is worth around 2,000 points, so Flamma is worth triggering on a score run.[4]
  • Taking no damage in a mission adds a 5,000-point bonus. Restarting from a checkpoint after a death costs points, so PowerPyx suggests restarting the whole mission after a big mistake.[4]
